King’s Mill Hospital rated ‘Good’ following latest CQC inspection
Wednesday, 15 July 2026
King’s Mill Hospital has been rated ‘Good’ overall in a report issued by the independent regulators of health and adult social care services in England today.
The report shares the outcome of the inspection from the Care Quality Commission which took place on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 March 2026, rating the hospital as ‘Good’ across five other domains of being Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.
The ratings, which recognise that services are performing well and meeting expectations, were awarded following an inspection of the site’s Medical Care and Urgent and Emergency Care services.
In their report, inspectors noted that hospital staff worked well together for the benefit of patients and their loved ones, working alongside other local NHS services to plan and deliver patients’ care. Patients who used services were involved in planning and making shared decisions about their care and treatment and it centred around them and their needs.
The report highlighted a number of strengths across the service, including the Trust’s open and honest culture, person-centred approach, and commitment to ensuring patients were seen quickly and that they feel safe, cared for, listened to and fully informed of all treatment options. They also noted that staff worked well in collaboration with colleagues from other services external to the hospital.
After speaking to a number of patients and their carers, the Commission noted that patients and their families were positive about the staff and said they were “treated with warmth, kindness and provided with effective care and treatment”. They did not feel anxious about raising concerns and experienced a non-judgmental and inclusive approach to their care.
Philip Bolton, Executive Chief Nurse at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs King’s Mill Hospital, said: “We are delighted that the Care Quality Commission has recognised the quality of care provided by our teams with an overall ‘Good’ rating, which reflects the dedication, professionalism and compassion shown by our teams across our hospitals every day.
“While recognising the challenges facing NHS services across the country right now, the report highlights our commitment to delivering safe and effective care and recognising the positive experiences of the patients, families and communities we serve.
“We are proud of this achievement and remain committed to continuous improvement and building on the CQC’s feedback to further enhance the care and experience we provide for our patients.”
